Mishkan Shalom Social Action

Mishkan Shalom

is an activist, spiritual, community of Jews committed to Avodah (Prayer), Torah (Study) and G'milut Hasadim/Tikkun Olam (Acts of Caring/Repair of the World).

Sanctuary at Congregation Mishkan Shalom

Avodah/Prayer

In our community there are many different ways of understanding God as we explore Jewish spiritual living. Our synagogue is a safe place to share our faith and doubt, a place where we can ask questions and learn from one another as we seek to balance tradition and innovation.

Rabbi Kevin Hale working on a Torah

Torah/Study

Our study of Torah, Jewish history and culture, as well as universal teachings, enables us to pursue a just world. We learn that our obligation is not only to act, but to realize how much is in our power to change.

We commit to compassionate support for each other and to being a voice for Tikkun Olam.

Mordechai Kaplan and the Second Century of Reconstructing Judaism

Prior to serving as lead rabbi for Mishkan Shalom, I participated in numerous conversations about the mission and goals of our now called Reconstructing Judaism. In my  years of traveling throughout Canada and the United States I heard many interpretations of Reconstructionist theology, philosophy and practice from self-described "classical Kaplanians"  to "neo-Hasidic" Reconstructionists
